Our Trails:

Loppet Loop (30 km): This is the route previously used for the Wells Gray Loppet. Skiers start at Helmcken Falls Lodge, and ski out across the Wells Gray Golf Course to the Stillwater Trail. Turn right onto the Stillwater Trail and ski up to the height of land on McLeod Hill. (Be sure you stay left where the trail forks at the Stillwater/McLeod Hill junction). Ski past the King Hut to the Murtle River, past the Majerus Farm, and out to the Murtle River warming hut. Then ski back along the Majerus Farm trail to the Willow Trail. Turn right onto the Willow Trail, right again onto the Blackwater Trail, and ski down to the Stillwater Trail. Turn left at the Blackwater/Stillwater junction, cross Blackwater Creek, and turn right to return to Helmcken Falls Lodge via the Golf Course. In the days of the Loppet, the record time for skiing this loop was about 1 hour and 30 minutes, but the average skier should plan on 3 or 4 hours, longer if you intend to stop at either warming hut for a break.

Majerus Farm (3 km round trip): This is a gentle trail for novice skiers. Start at the Murtle River warming hut, and ski to the old buildings at the Majerus homestead. If you would like to make a loop trail, turn right onto the Willow Trail, and then left at the Willow/Blackwater junction. When you reach the homestead buildings, turn left again and ski along the Murtle River to return to the warming hut.

Pyramid Bay (9 km round trip): A good ski for the average skier, with a couple of short hills and sharp corners. Start at the Murtle River warming hut, and ski past the old Majerus homestead to Pyramid Bay on the Murtle River. Return the same way.

King Hut: Another 3 km past Pyramid Bay takes you to a small warming hut located in King?s Meadow. Firewood is provided, but there is no water at this site.

McLeod Hill (20 km, one-way_ - a short, steep climb to the height of land past the King Hut takes you to the top of McLeod Hill. Lots of down-hill and some gently rolling terrain takes you eventually back to Helmcken Falls Lodge.

Blackwater (10 km, one-way): This is by far the most exciting run, as the trail drops sharply and does some sharp curves. The "Roller Coaster" and "Corkscrew" sections live up to their names. Extreme caution advised if conditions are icy.
